About the Retreat

Remember the masked party in the Stanley Kubrick film “Eyes Wide Shut” where Tom Cruise stalks around a palazzo surrounded by beautiful models? The Scarlet Hotel, with its uninhibited vibe, vivacious staff and “boutique bordello” feel, could easily have served as the setting for that scene.

Pledging to give guests an “adventure for the senses”, this former collection of shophouses in Chinatown now sports millions of dollars’ worth of refurbishments which include a sparkling, Christmas tree-like exterior and plushly-appointed interior.

Standard guestrooms are almost completely pastel, and can seem a little on the cramped side. Executive rooms, designed with the business traveler in mind, are more spacious and allow more red touches to “bleed” into the décor.

Suites, meanwhile, are designed with misbehaving in mind: all bear names like Swank, Opulent and Passion. Restaurants are similarly named. Desire is meant for Date Night, Bold provides the backdrop for drinks with friends, and Breeze is the rooftop seafood grill.
